The Secret Life of Walter Mitty Movie Review

http://ia.media-imdb.com/images/M/MV5BODYwNDYxNDk1Nl5BMl5BanBnXkFtZTgwOTAwMTk2MDE@._V1_SX214_AL_.jpgThe Secret Life of Walter Mitty (2013)

I am not the biggest fan of Ben Stiller, so I could Have easily passed on this one, but the trailer for this film looked really interesting. I had to see how this story played out. Of course when I walked in the theater, all my fingers were crossed hoping that I wouldn't walk out totally disappointed. I'm happy to say that I didn't.
This movie was soooooo cute! When I say cute, I don't mean "girlie" cute, but just plain cute. It was really fun to watch. I loved the story and all the characters, who each brought so much to the story. And to my surprise, I totally enjoyed Stiller. This is definitely one of my favorite movies from him. He was good, and looked even better. And I'm serious about the looks part. I found myself crushing hard on Stiller in this film...lol. I would break down all my favorite characters, but honestly, I enjoyed them all, from Stiller's mother, the on-line dating phone rep, Stiller's sister...everyone. I also have to give props to the filming style of this movie. There are some great visually entertaining shots that I have to applaud.

This is a feel good movie. One that will likely have you smiling when leaving the theater. This movie would be great for a date, or movie night alone. It has an enjoyable feel to it, so I really hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

"If I stay" Movies Review

 If I Stay (2014)

http://www.showfilmfirst.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/08/If-I-Stay-poster-2014.pnghttp://www.pagetopremiere.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/Screen-Shot-2014-03-28-at-10.03.51-AM.png http://www.joblo.com/newsimages1/ifistay-trailer.jpgThis movie probably won't move most of you, and I'm sure many of you have very little interest in seeing it. I'm a fan of a good "chick flick", and I found the trailer and theatrical poster to my liking, which intrigued my interest to see this film. I also heard it was a bit of a tear jerker, and this weekend I was in need of a good cry...

This movie was all Chloe Grace Moretz...wow. I'm not the biggest fan of hers, but I do always find respect for her performances, but her performance in this film set me on a different level with her. She was absolutely perfect as Mia Hall. It was said Dakota Fanning was also up for this role, but as much as I love Fanning, I don't think she would have done Mia the justice. Moretz was so soft, beautiful and sweet. And don't get me started on the music in the film. She had me thinking she was really playing that beautiful cello...nicely done. Besides Moretz, I loved the story and the other characters involved. Mia and her best friend played by Liana Liberato felt like a genuine friendship. Mia's family will have you laughing, and falling in love with their family dynamic. Then there is the love story, which did a great job of being overkill in the story.

This movie is super sweet, moving, and may have a few of you wiping some tears away. This movie was beautifully directed and had great acting performances. It will hold your attention until the credits roll, that is if you're in to movies like these, enjoyed it

The Purge: Anarchy Movie Review

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/2/29/The_Purge_%E2%80%93_Anarchy_Poster.jpg

The Purge: Anarchy (2014)

How do you feel about 20% of Americans owning nearly 90% of the country's wealth?
Your answer to this question will determine your reaction to this movie.

It's a sequel to the 2013 film, which was generally dismissed as a "clunker." The Movie Slut missed that one, but heard this year's installment was superior, so she gave it a try. And is happy she did.

http://i.ytimg.com/vi/t4e-ZDZT5gw/maxresdefault.jpghttp://cdn.indiewire.com/dims4/INDIEWIRE/af7b221/2147483647/thumbnail/680x478/quality/75/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fd1oi7t5trwfj5d.cloudfront.net%2F61%2F65%2Fa610abf94f1280fed1de5404bdd4%2Fthe-purge-3a-anarchy-2426101.jpgThe action takes place in 2023. Life is peachy for the wealthy and they're determined to keep it this way. Which brings us to the annual purge   a 24 hour stretch when all crimes can be committed without repercussions. It's a bad guy's paradise and serves to reduce the population. You know, less drain on resources.

Guess who is culled from the year's census? Not the wealthiest 20%, of course. They call themselves the "New Founding Fathers." But they're The Enemy to the rebels determined to change the status quo.
The Purge: Anarchy is an edge-of-your-seat thriller and despite the futuristic time frame, a good old fashioned battle between good and evil.

Third Person Movie Freview

http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/91pH9vyQTbL._SL1500_.jpgThird Person (2013)

Michael (Liam Neeson) is the main person in Third Person. He's a writer who writes in third person. If he wrote in first person, this would be an easier movie to understand. But probably not as good.

Michael's story is a tragic one and he's holed up in a Parisian hotel to write it. He has a wife back home (Kim Basinger), and a lover in Paris, (Olivia Wilde.) And then there are a bunch of other characters, also with sad and tragic stories.

Screen writer and director Paul Haggis also gave us the amazing Crash, another movie with interlocking stories. But he's not working with the same mold in this flick. And despite what some critics said, in the end, moviegoers will know what Third Person is all about and why Michael is writing in third person.

Transcendence Movie Review

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/e/ef/Transcendence2014Poster.jpgTranscendence (2014)

The Movie Slut wanted to love this movie, this cautionary tale about human hubris. Or is it folly? Or are they one and the same? It's about scientists who fail to see the logical reprecussions of their work. But she had to settle for like.

Will and Evelyn Castor (Johnny Depp and Rebecca Hall) are the brains behind an artificial intelligence experiment that aims to enable robots to transcend human intelligence. Needless to say, segments of the population (call them Luddites, if you want) foresee danger around this hairpin turn.

http://www.moviesreporter.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/still-of-johnny-depp-and-rebecca-hall-in-transcendence-2014.jpgSome say this is a classic Frankenstein story, only this time it's not science that runs amok. It's technology. And that sounded brilliant to MS. Also on the plus side was a shape shifting theme that muddied the waters between the good guys and bad guys.

So what went wrong?

The focus of the flick also got muddy. You might ask what's love got to do with it? Why are we suddenly submerged into contemplating the enduring nature of love, a fine theme for a film, but not one with so much else that should have remained in sharp focus.

http://imovie-trailer.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/07/Transcendence_thumbLG2.jpgIn the end, Transcendence doesn't transcend the level of a pretty good popcorn movie. A shame, when it could have been so much more.

Son of God: Great Movie Review

http://ia.media-imdb.com/images/M/MV5BMjA3NjQ2ODYwN15BMl5BanBnXkFtZTgwNTQ0NDc2MDE@._V1_SX640_SY720_.jpg
Son of God (2014)

The Movie Slut is no expert on the Bible old or new. So she recruited one to join her at the multiplex on opening night. The theater was packed for the 7 p.m. performance, with families and children, some barely old enough to walk.

The expert confirmed the veracity of this account of the life of Jesus, from birth to resurrection, but did say the scenes of torture and crucifixion were not child friendly.

http://blogs-images.forbes.com/scottmendelson/files/2014/03/la-fi-ct-son-of-god-movie-20140228.jpg
Portuguese actor Diogo Morgado, in the leading role, is already a Jesus Christ superstar. He stars in The History Channel series, from which the movie was adapted. Like the prophet he portrays, he has a large and adoring flock of followers.

http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/sites/default/files/2013/11/son_a.jpgAccording to hipstermonk.com, "No other
character, historical or mythical, has inspired as many movies as Jesus Christ has." BTW, the first on hipster's list is a 1905 silent film titled, "The Life and Passion of Jesus Christ."

For the Movie Slut, however, this was a first, if you don't count the musical. And though it sticks to the basics, skirts over many parts of the story, she recommends it for adults into this kind of thing.

Frozen Movie Review : Will Warm Your Heart

https://lh4.ggpht.com/_k_JWEdsbOwFnQ5iz-THDHl5Y621NqpqznSMbVN9DrU2Qlt5ZHEuINgWCsCQMLnbSOrq=h900
Frozen (2013)

To mark the second coming of the polar vortex, the Movie Slut went to see this cool flick. It's based on a Hans Christian Andersen story, which means there's a brain behind the action.

Frozen is an animated musical with a script and score that rival anything you'll see on Broadway. And so do the voices of Kristen Bell and Idina Menzel.

http://t1.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcSSuYpzGU0HpDAvBjB7pBA4XMAwqcWti8SmaIMiD4bkZBk01libsgEight-year-old Annie says the movie is too "girly." But she'll probably appreciate this when she gets older. Without giving too much away, the MS says this movie goes beyond the idea that true love can only be between a gal and a guy. (Not that it's one of those, you know, kinds of movies.)

It just proves that the love between two sisters can also be a powerful force.

Gravity Movie Review

http://twitchfilm.com/assets_c/2013/05/2013%20-%20Gravity-thumb-300xauto-38425.jpgGravity (2013)

At times during this cinematic odyssey, you might think you've awakened in adult space camp.
You're up there or is it out there? untethered, floating about in zero gravity with Sandra Bullock and George Clooney.

But is that really what this interesting, if not always enjoyable, film is about?

http://undertheradar.military.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/09/gravitycuaronbullockclooney.jpgThe Movie Slut thinks not. Though she won't give away her interpretation. Suffice it to say, that it's not until the end of this flick that the message is revealed. And she thinks it's worth waiting for.

Don Jon Movie Review

http://t0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcTiaS80GDk-Lj1goNonUVhavzhDH9TDVKpcog-FU-XpfB59ktj8Don Jon (2013)

Joseph Gordon-Levitt is a triple threat.  He's the writer, director and star of this modern-day variation on the Don Juan story.

Jon is a Lothario. He never goes home alone. But as sexy as his gal-pals are, in his mind they never match the ones he ogles on his computer screen.

Enter, Scarlett Johansson, a real life babe. Will she cure our porn-addicted protagonist?
http://static.rogerebert.com/redactor_assets/pictures/5241fae64206c5b9be00002b/DonJon-2013-2.jpg
The Movie Slut will not answer that question. But she will say that for all its preoccupation with sex, this flick is about relationships.
http://t3.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcQamDTUCoc3Megj20JL3LtGrkSnrMMuxVCmzsEtzyS7SgF3Jas-It's a dynamo of a movie. Watching it is like sipping a Jolt cocktail. But it's not the first time a spectacular flick has taken off on Don Juan's story.

The Family Movie Review

http://ia.media-imdb.com/images/M/MV5BMjE2MzI0MzkyNV5BMl5BanBnXkFtZTcwMjQ2MDM2OQ@@._V1_SX640_SY720_.jpgThe Family (2013)

The trouble with this "family flick" is that at nearly two hours, it's a good hour too short.
Like when have you heard the Movie Slut say that before? Like never.

It's not a comedy that will have you doubled over with hilarity, but one that maintains a gleefully zany plot and superb comedic action from start to too-soon finish.
http://ia.media-imdb.com/images/M/MV5BMTgyOTE0NzA5MV5BMl5BanBnXkFtZTgwNTM3MjIxMDE@._V1_SX640_SY720_.jpg
http://www.moviesmacktalk.com/news/wp-content/uploads/2013/09/Robert-DeNiro-The-Family-2013-Movie-Still-3.jpgOur witness-protected family, masquerading as the all-American Blakes, have arrived in France, sparking more Franco-American strife than we've experienced since the freedom fries brouhaha. But these jokes, tickling as they are, are secondary to the sociopathic antics of these goodfellas and gals.

Robert de Niro, as the head of the psycho family, nailed it. And Michelle Pfeiffer, who's already been Married to the Mob, more than reprises her role.

Give thanks each day that they're not the folks next door. But do meet them at the multiplex.

Jobs Movie Review

Jobs (2013)

With all due respect for the Supreme Court, corporations are NOT people. But if they were, Apple is a company that seems to have a pulse and heartbeat and the ability, if not to love, then to be loved.

http://1.fwcdn.pl/po/08/90/650890/7561114.3.jpgYou'll have to excuse the Movie Slut for such hyperbole. But she's been an Apple believer and lover since she took her first bite. She's never owned another computer. She knew it was a superior product even when it was looking down, if not out. Then, of course, there was the comeback.

Jobs, the movie, was not embraced by many critics. But maybe the problem is the title. What if the movie were called Apple? It is, after all, the story of the company as much as the man.

It opens in 2001 with Steve Jobs introducing the revolutionary iPod. Then we go back to the mid-'70s to meet the visionary who believed that what we wanted now was not a chicken in every pot, but a personal computer on ever desk.

The MS remembers those early days when home computing was in its infancy. The movie captures the exhilaration of the time when this new, seemingly miraculous, machine was being introduced. She read everything she could about it. She took courses to learn to operate it. It was the future.
The movie captures all of this, as well as the ups and downs of the company and the man.

Some critics complained that Aston Kutcher was out of his depth in the role. Not so, the MS says. He carries the movie and does a superlative job of reminding us that you don't always have to be one of the pack, that you can risk failure, that it's OK to follow your dream when others are telling you it's a nightmare.

Blue Jasmine Movie Preview

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/3/3f/Blue_Jasmine_poster.jpgBlue Jasmine (2013)

In this years installment of the world according to Woody Allen, our beloved director goes bi-coastal.

Jasmine (Cate Blanchett), a spoiled Park Avenue socialite, is the East Coast sister.  Ginger (Sally Hawkins) lives decidedly downscale and happier in San Francisco.

Sadly, Jasmine has had a reversal of fortune that necessitates moving in with Ginger.
It's not pretty. And not funny either. Woody has gone dark in this one, though some amusing characters, played by a sterling cast, will put some smiles on faces.

http://i4.mirror.co.uk/incoming/article2299551.ece/alternates/s2197/BLUE-JASMINE.jpg"What do you think he was saying?" the Movie Slut asked her companion as they left the multiplex.

It wasn't until hours later that she figured out Woody's message. At least what she thinks it is.
Of course, she won't give it away. But here's one clue. If she's right, this entertaining film is also quite self-serving.

Men in Black 3: Triple the Fun Movie Review

Men in Black 3

"A miracle is something that seems impossible but happens anyway."
Someone says that in MIB3. The Movie Slut doesn't remember who. But the quote sums up her feelings about this hilarious second sequel.

Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones are back as the special agents in charge of extraterrestrial control. And those oozy-goozy, gloriously gross  immigrants from outer space have returned, too. Most notably, Boris the Animal, (seen below) who's been incarcerated for decades in his very own moon prison. (A Newt Gingrich idea?)

MIB3 involves time traveling back to 1969, which adults will appreciate. Was Andy Warhol really an alien?
Josh Brolin steps in as Agent K back in that groovy time and is a smashing Tommy Lee Jones impersonator.

MIB3 is not for everyone. Young children could be traumatized. But anyone over the age of 10, who loves icky aliens, time travel and tongue-in-cheek action-packed humor, should forget the curse of the sequel and zip on over to the closest multiplex.
